The Dante Alighieri Society, a moral institution founded in 1889, is a Third Sector Organization. Through a worldwide network in 74 countries, the Dante connects 142,000 people who love Italy and its many expressions — from language to culture, from history to art, from cuisine to fashion, from projects to lifestyles.

The institution offers language courses for students and teachers following the Dante.global method; through the Dante Alighieri Italian Language Project – PLIDA, it provides exams that officially certify linguistic competence in Italian, conducts professional training and development activities for teachers, and promotes thousands of cultural initiatives across its global network and at Palazzo Firenze (Rome), its headquarters. Organized within the Literary Presidia project, the libraries of the Dante network make thousands of Italian-language books available worldwide.

A member of the Strega Prize jury since 2009, the Dante is part of EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture) and ALTE (Association of Language Testers in Europe), and it chairs CLIQ (Quality Italian Language Certification)

The Dante strengthens the ties between Italians living abroad and their homeland, and fosters among foreigners a love for Italy’s culture, civilization, and language.
